Getting there

As mentioned in the announcement, for those arriving and departing on the Saturdays and staying at the hotel, we will provide transport from and to the airport of Athens with rented coaches. We are considering to extend this offer to the participants who arrive earlier on Friday and depart late on Sunday, provided that they are enough to be eventually arranged in a group, which would justify the use of a mini-bus. It is important to let us know, the soonest possible, the exact date/time and flight No. of your arrival and departure!

You can also reach the hotel as follows:

By taxi

If your arrival time is inconvenient (very late at night, or very early in the morning), the best option would be to get a taxi from the airport and ask the driver to go directly to the hotel in Eretria. The duration of the trip is about one and a quarter hour, depending on the traffic, and the cost is appx. 80-90 EUR.

Another option would be to ask the driver to go to Oropos, where you will get a ferry boat to Eretria (see also the below section "by car"). You will have to wait for no more than half an hour at the harbour; most Athenians travelling to Evia choose this way, and during this time of the year boats depart as soon as they are full. In this case, the trip by taxi would take about an hour and the cost is around 50 EUR, while the boat trip takes about half an hour and the ticket is 5 to 7 EUR.

Please take note that in both cases, the driver will, most probably, not use the taxi meter and ask you to negotiate a price. Don't get annoyed, this is quite normal for trips outside Athens, but do not accept any prices higher than these we mention above.

This method would be ideal if two or three persons could share a taxi. The same method could be used for the return; in this case you may ask the hotel reception for a taxi.

By train

Just in front of the airport arrivals exit, there is the entrance of the suburban train (which is called "proastiakos" in Greek). Full details on the timetables are available in the page http://www.proastiakos.gr/en/timetable.asp?m=3. The trip lasts 40 minutes and the ticket costs 6 EUR. You get off at the last stop, the Athens Central Railway Station.

There you should get a train towards Halkida (Khalkis), the capital of Evia. Trains depart at 04:12, 05:16, 06:22, 07:22, 07:56, 08:52, 09:52, 10:24, 11:22, 12:52, 13:22, 14:22, 15:22, 15:53, 17:52, 18:22, 19:22, 20:53 and 22:28. The trip lasts one and a half hour and the ticket costs 4.70 EUR.

Unfortunately, the Railway Station of Halkida does not share the same building with the Bus Terminal, thus the recommended option is to get a taxi from there to reach the hotel. These who may be on a tight budget could get a taxi to the Halkida KTEL Station instead and from there a bus to the hotel (there is a stop, just in front of the hotel). The distance between Halkida and the hotel is 27 km. A direct taxi ride would cost about 15-20 EUR.

By car

There are numerous car-hire outlets (including all the major multi-national companies) at the Athens International Airport. If you plan to spend some more days in Evia for vacations, this would be the most appropriate choice.

As soon as you leave the airport, you get in the newly constructed Attiki Odos and then to the National Highway Athens-Lamia. There are two options now:

  • After about 50 km, you will meet the exit towards Oropos. You will get a ferry from there and within half an hour you will be at Eretria. During summer and early September, the service is very frequent: the first ferry departs at 06:00, and then every half an hour between 06:45-12.45 and 13:00-21:00, with the last at 22:00. The ticket (including the fare for the car) is 7 EUR.
  • Soon after the second toll post, you will come across a signpost for the exit towards Khalkis (Halkida). You continue for another 15 km and you will meet the big suspending bridge leading to Halkida. From there on, you follow the road towards Eretria. The whole trip till the hotel is around 100 km (70 till Halkida, and another 30 till the hotel).
