It is with great pleasure that the Prefecture of
Athens decided to cooperate with the Greek Chess
Federation in the organisation of the “Acropolis”
International Tournament, which will be taking place
in Athens from 9 to 17 August 2008.
On this occasion I would like to stress that in the
line of Greek sport the Greek Chess Federation has a
long-lived presence with outstanding achievements on
an international level, while chess has a long
history and is broadly spread not only among foreign
nations but also in our country.
Regarding the Acropolis International Tournament it
should be mentioned that as one of the top
international events with top men and women chess
players participating from all over the world, it
brings on the spotlight not only Greek Chess but
also our country.
