battles, the upsets and some statistics.
Let’s begin with a few statistics from
the “Acropolis 2007 Tournament ”:
Total number of participants 82 from 20 countries.
Among them 19 GM, 15 IM, 5 WGM, 5 WIM, 6 FM, 1 WFM.
Largest delegation the one from Turkey (6 chess
players), second from Georgia (7 chess
players, 2 of them live permanently in Athens).
More specifically: ALB (2), ARM (1), AUS (1), AZE (1), BEL
(1), BUL (3), DEN (1), GEO (7), GER (1), GRE (46),
ISR (1), LTU (1), MDA (1), POL (2), ROM (1), RUS
(2), SLO (1), TUR (6), UKR (2), UZB (1).
After the conclusion of the 3rd round, 3 players
have the absolute score (3 wins in 3 games): GM
Smirin I. (2649), GM Rozentalis E. (2551) and GM
Parligras M. (2542). They defeated
playing with white GM Griva E., IM
Esen Baris and IM Erdogdu Mert respectively. In the
following places we find: IM Moutousis Konstantinos
(2428), GM Georgiev Kiril (2663), Filippas Sebastian
(2145), GM Nikolaidis Ioannis (2525), GM Halkias

 The tournament is being held daily in the "Europa"
conference hall of "President" Hotel (on Kifissias
Avenue) from the 14th to the 22nd of August 2007.
The games start at 17:00 (15:00 GMT), except for the last
round which starts at 14:00 (12:00 GMT).
Admittance is free.
The tournament is covered in detail on the

Moreover, all games of each round will be available
for online viewing or download; this also applies to
the daily bulletins (in electronic format). For
chess fans unable to visit the tournament,
live games coverage will also be available.
