Acropolis International Chess Tournament 2007

The Greek Chess Federation and the Prefecture of
Athens are delighted to announce the beginning of
the International Chess Tournament "Acropolis" 2007.
The "Acropolis" tournament is a traditional member
of the Greek chess calendar. Swiss System 9 rounds,
invitational FIDE rated tournament, FIDE
time-control (90 minutes for 40 moves followed by 30
minutes until the end of the game plus an
incremental time of 30 seconds per move from move
one) with the following tie-break criteria: Direct encounter. If
all the tied players have met each other, then the
sum of points from these encounters. Otherwise, tie-break criteria
will be applied in the following order: a. average rating of opponents, b. sum of
progressive scores, c. Buchholz, d. Sonnenborg-Berger.
In all cases, FIDE rules apply.
All top Greek chess players and famous players from all over the
world, such as World Championship Candidates and
renowned grandmasters, have participated in the
tournament for years now.
This year more than 80 chess players will play in the
tournament, including GM Kiril Georgiev, GM Ilia
Smirin, GM Dmitry Svetushkin, GM Tamaz Gelashvili,
GM Bartlomiej Macieja, GM Vadim Malakhatko, GM
Alexander Graf, GM Boris Chatalbashev, GM Eduardas
Rozentalis, GM Oleg Romanishin, GM Mircea Parligras,
GM Alexei Barsov and the Greeks GM Vasilios
Kotronias, GM Hristos Banikas, GM Dimitrios
Mastrovasilis, GM Athanasios Mastrovasilis, GM
Ioannis Nikolaidis, GM Efstratios Grivas.
Also, WGM
Yelena Dembo, WGM Elina Danielian, WGM Nana
Dzagnidze, WGM Salome Melia, WGM Jolanta Zawadzka,

The tournament will be held daily in the "Europa"
conference hall of "President" Hotel (on Kifissias
Avenue) from the 14th to the 22nd of August 2007.
The games start at 17:00 (last round, 22/8 at 14:00).
Admittance is free.
The tournament will be covered in detail on the
official website with news, results, standings,
photos, etc.
Moreover, all games of each round will be available
for online viewing or download; this also applies to
the daily bulletins (in electronic format). For
chess fans unable to visit the tournament,
live games coverage will also be available.
